EMERGENCY INFORMATION
Your safety is our top priority. GMR Staff will be patrolling the route and will have wireless and/or satellite phones. However, due to the route being spread out and the rural nature of the GMR route and Vermont in general, please be aware that medical assistance will not be as timely as in major population areas. If anything serious does happen to someone on your team, you are strongly encouraged to take the initiative to assist your teammate. Information is provided below to direct you to the quickest assistance. Depending on your location and wireless phone coverage (spotty at best), it may be in your best interest to load up your injured teammate into your van and transport them to the nearest town to contact their emergency medical response organization, or to the nearest hospital. Personal preparation and planning is key.
Dial 911 and provide as much detailed information as possible.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Both vehicles must each have a wireless phone to ensure communication in any type of emergency.
Each team’s van must have a medical kit. It can be a home-made medical kit but should contain everything you may need in case of a minor running injury: Band-aids, gauze, cold compression pack, athletic wrap, pain medicine, scissors, antibiotic ointment.
Write your name, allergies, medications, illnesses and team phone number on the backs of bibs to expedite the delivery of medical care.
